Mont-aux-Sources

landscape

Mont-aux-Sources stands as a magnificent mountain block within the grandeur of the Drakensberg range, showcasing some of the highest and most awe-inspiring peaks. Among them is the Sentinel, a breathtaking vertical wall that stretches up to 1,000 feet. Despite its unassuming appearance, the high point of Mont-aux-Sources holds great significance as it marks the triangular meeting point where the borders of Lesotho and the South African provinces of Natal and Orange Free State converge.

True to its name, Mont-aux-Sources serves as the source for three major rivers, each embarking on a dramatic descent down the mountain slopes. One of the most remarkable displays of this natural phenomenon is the Tugela Falls, a series of five cascades plunging nearly 3,000 feet over the eastern face of the mountain.

Nestled within the splendor of the Royal Natal National Park, Mont-aux-Sources offers a network of well-marked trails, inviting adventurers to explore its rugged terrain. The park features not only towering cliffs but also numerous freestanding rocks, providing both seasoned climbers and casual hikers with ample opportunities for exhilarating experiences amidst nature’s wonders.
